Ivan Koumaev , having toured with the Hannah Montana Show and Fox’s hit So You Think You Can Dance tells JigTV.com all about his dance background, what he’s learned, and advice for those interested in becoming a professional dancer.

Though his moves are smooth, Ivan’s career didn’t start off too smoothly. When he first heard about the show So You Think You Can Dance, he decided to audition for the first season. After waiting all day, standing in line in the cold, he was told that he wouldn’t be able to audition since he wasn’t yet 18 years old.

Since that experience put him off, he didn’t even consider trying out for the second season, even though he was finally old enough. But just before the auditions, a friend was going and asked Ivan to come along. He made the quick decision to go along, and the next thing he knew he was in Las Vegas as part of the hit show.

Chelsea Latimer, host of the online dance community’s interview series, talks with Ivan about other experiences he had, how he started dancing, and advice for people interested in becoming professional dancers.

For example, as a hip-hop dancer, you might not guess that Ivan Koumaev thinks that ballet is a very important for movement and flow. In his interview on JigTV.com, he explains that his biggest regret is that he didn’t take ballet classes earlier in his career.

Ivan main piece of advice for those interested in learning to dance is, “You have to never plateau.” What Ivan means is that you always have to be open to experiences and learning new styles of dance to become better all the time. “Never fully know where you’re going,” Ivan said, encouraging a healthy appreciation of dancing variety. Having fallen in love with learning, Ivan is now a successful choreographer.

For his next step, Ivan is heading to New York where will use his experiences in a variety of dance styles as he hopes to become the next big thing in hip-hop dance. To check out the full interview, visit JigTV.com
